What Are Our Charges?
At Thomas Furber we are committed to providing our clients the highest standards of professional service at fair prices. We have set out a framework of costs below for our “Essential Funeral” and for the Thomas Furber “Classic Funeral” to provide a guide to our costs.
Description Of Funeral
Essential Funeral
Hearse direct to crematorium or cemetery (graveside service only).
A charge will be added for additional time for a church service held beforehand.
Classic Funeral
Hearse and one limousine (for six mourners).
No charge for additional time if a church service is required beforehand.
Route to pass home if required.
Professional Services
Including;
- Collection of the deceased from home or hospital during normal hours; 20-mile radius from our office
- Making all funeral arrangements
- Completing necessary documentation
- Contacting clergy
- Conductor & bearers
- Hearse only
- Includes administration for collection of donations in lieu of flowers
- Bereavement advice
Additional charges apply for out of hours collection (see below).
Including;
- Collection of the deceased from home or hospital during normal hours; 20-mile radius from our office

- Hearse and one limousine for six mourners (COVID-19 restrictions in place)
- Includes administration for collection of donations in lieu of flowers
- Display a photo of your loved one during the funeral service at the crematorium (if available)
- Online obituary page included. Create your own memories with family and friends. Receive messages of condolence. Notify where the funeral takes place. Donations can also be collected in memory and Gift Aided via Just Giving.
- Bereavement advice
Additional charges apply for out of hours collection (see below).

Other optional features may be added including a horse-drawn carriage, different coffin types such as willow, solid wood, or a personalised “photo imaged” coffin.
Childrens' Funerals
At Thomas Furber & Co. we understand that no one wishes to suffer the loss of a child, and we offer our services for free for arranging and conducting the funeral of a child aged from 0-years to 16-years. We include a white coffin, the hearse and one limousine.
Please note there may be some disbursement costs, e.g. cremation or burial fees; these are out of our control.
Third Party Disbursements
In addition to our fees shown above, there are other third-party disbursements which typically include the crematorium fees of £825 (Birmingham City Council Crematoria), doctor’s fees of £82 (due to COVID-19 restrictions), and fees for the minister or celebrant from £199. Crematoria costs vary from crematorium to crematorium.
We will take you through these options each step of the way. We help our families choose what is best for them and their loved ones so that their day is remembered in the most special way.
Just Direct Cremation
Our Just Direct Cremation is an unattended cremation of the deceased at a date and time of our choice. Some families prefer not to have a funeral service, and the Just Direct Cremation is our way of meeting these wishes.
Do take the time to consider if Direct Cremation is what you or your loved one wish to have.
We arrange the cremation without the attendance of any family members. We select a basic coffin for the deceased and they will be transported to the crematorium in one of our hearses, along with our staff. Our team, Keith, Dave and Sue, take care of all of the arrangements.
The cost of this including the crematorium fee and the Doctor's fee is £1,290. The cost of arranging a viewing in our Chapel of Rest is £150.
All fees to be paid in advance.
